RUTH KNIGHT

The necessary experience, temperament and skills to be elected as County Judge. She is committed to serving the community with humility, integrity, fairness, courtesy, and patience.
ABOUT
Ruth is the older of two daughters. Her parents fled communist Cuba in 1985 and brought the family to the United States in search of religious freedom and better opportunities. Her father became a volunteer missionary and was stationed in Haiti. In 1987, the family then relocated to Puerto Rico to be closer to him. Through her hard work, passion, and determination Ruth received her undergraduate degree in 1993 from the University of Puerto Rico Cayey University College majoring in Psychology and Mental Health of the Community. Soon after graduating, she returned to USA. In 1997, she started law school and in 1999 she received her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Ruth has spent all of her legal career as a public servant. Ruth has over 22 years of experience in the practice of law and for 20 of those she has been engaged in active courtroom practice that ensures knowledge of the law and courtroom procedures. Right after earning her law degree, she worked as a staff attorney for Florida Rural Legal Services in Lakeland. For over 2 years, she represented low income individuals in cases that mainly included small claims, landlord tenant and housing issues and public benefits. In 2002, she joined the Public Defender Office and since then, she has been representing indigent defendants. As an Assistant Public Defender, Ruth has also had the opportunity to supervise other attorneys while serving as Misdemeanor Division Chief and Division Chief in several felony divisions throughout the years. She has also served three stints in the juvenile division representing at-risk children charged with committing delinquent acts. In her legal experience, Ruth has handled cases that range from simple criminal traffic infractions to first degree murders. Support Ruth Knight.

FAMILY
Ruth is married to Terrence Mizell. God has blessed them with two boys. As teenagers, they surely keep them busy. Ruth also serves the community through the church ministries. She is seeking to continue serving the community as a Judge and for such reason we are asking for your support of Ruth in the upcoming election on August 23, 2022.
